Attachment & Detachment

Recently, through various means, the concepts of attachment and detachment have been presenting themselves. For example; my Spirit Team tells me things like, “experience the vessel”, “enjoy the vessel”, and “be present in the vessel”. Their point being to allow myself to be attached to my human body so that I can experience and learn, in each moment, about the world around me… I chose this after all.

Then again, a being spoke during November’s channeling session, she said not to be too attached to the human body because it is temporary.  This made me think of it like changing an outfit or leasing a different vehicle. But she really got me thinking about how much we can hold ourselves back from leaping forward because we are overly attached to the physical.

Perhaps it is the extremes that truly inhibit our personal growth. When we cling more to who we are outside of this human existence we can feel alienated, misunderstood, like we just don’t belong here. We can spend entire lifetimes trying to claw our way out of being simply human.

On the opposite end of that, we can find ourselves so focused on the physical existence that we can feel weighed down and exhausted by the burden of human senses, emotions, needs, wants, and limitations; anything but simple.

For me, I’ve come to the realization that both are necessary,  but they do not balance like scales in my life. No, I have to allow both my Spirit and my Humanity to flow like the waters of a lake, back and forth, bouncing off the shores, only to wave and ripple back into one another, allowing them to overlap as they may. By living within the ebb and flow, I feel much more rooted in both my Humanity and my Spirit, neither overly attached nor overly detached from either.

How do you explore attachment / detachment within your Humanity and Spirituality?
